Coronado California

Coronado California is a small town connected to the City of San Diego by the San Diego-Coronado Bridge. It is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, and Glorietta and San Diego bays. Coronado also offers great views of Point Loma, the Coronado Islands 13 miles offshore, and Tijuana can be seen to the south. Downtown Coronado boasts many restaurants and unique shops. As well, Dog Beach is at the north end of Ocean Boulevard where dogs can run leash-free.

The Hotel del Coronado is a classic historic hotel considered one of America 's most beautiful beach resorts. It was built in 1888 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Today it offers beachfront luxury in an enchanting Victorian atmosphere. In town is the Naval Base Coronado which includes Naval Air Station North Island, home port for two aircraft carriers and the Naval Amphibious Base where the Navy SEALS are trained. Ferry Landing Marketplace has shops, restaurants and stunning views of downtown San Diego. You can also take a 15-minute ferry ride between Coronado and San Diego. Miles of bike paths hug the coastline and provide a great way to see some of Coronado while biking, roller blading or walking.

Jason's thoughts - Loved the menu and meal quality at the Bay Beach Café with nice views of the downtown San Diego skyline across the water at Ferry Market Landing. Little swimming area and lots of cool walkways for strollers, bikers, roller blading, and shop walking. You can also walk out on a long pier and watch the huge naval ships and sailboats go in and out of the harbor. Go to the huge marina across from the Hotel del Coronado as it is a nice 45 minute stroll along the water. We met a nice lady who let us board her 44 foot catamaran when we told her of our plans to possibly sail out of South Florida to the British Virgin Islands.

Kelly's thoughts - Coronado is a quaint town with a good feeling. The shopping is typical seaside attire. The San Diego Bay is awesome with all the gigantic Navy ships. This is the place to be if you love the outdoors and the big city next door.

Travel Info - Coronado did not seem RV friendly. The safest bet would be parking at Silver Strand State Beach and driving into town. From San Diego, take I-5 south and exit Highway 75 to Coronado. The San Diego-Coronado Bridge toll is no longer in service. Map location for Coronado. Click for San Diego or full-time rv diary.
